Dissertation Diaries: Optimising Humanitarian Aid through Modular and Transformable Design.

In this episode I interview my sister Ellie Obrecht on her dissertation Optimizing Humanitarian Aid through Modular and Transformable Design.

We discuss what designers can do to enhance humanitarian aid for refugees, homeless people, and for people who lose their homes during natural disasters. We talk criteria for short term aid thinking about inclusivity, sustainability and adaptability.

As a designer at a global sportswear brand we also discuss Ellie’s opinions on fashion for good, sustainable fashion, as well as her final year uni project which focused on clothing for disaster scenarios…that’s right folks she designed an outfit for a disease scenario (aka Covid) back in 2019!

Check out Ellie’s final year design project on the topic of designing for disaster scenarios. For more visit our page-refresh Instagram profile!
